Rhugga II has just left Hobbiton.
Perhaps it isnt so bad

From The Hollywood Reporter:

"MGM has secured support from key lenders to allow the studio enough cash to proceed with its participation in 'The Hobbit.' "

Without reading the linked article I'm certain that The Hobbit will be made soon enough and that it will have a big budget. The tie-in to the successful LotR trilogy has made it a sure bet, or as close as one can get to that, and with the lure of a grand pay-off, any hurdles on the way will be overcome and investors will not be lacking.
