I agree with doug and Bill Ferny. I think Mr Deluca's article was actually quite good. He dealt with the same subject as Pinkerton, but succeeded in actually saying something worth hearing. Nevvasaiel, he wasn't misinterpetreiting Tolkien, but pointing out that some people can and will do that.

BtW, isn't it a sign of a good book, that it can be applied to the current time as well? So even if Tolkien really hated all sorts of allegories, we should still be able to find some life instructions from LotR that we can all use in our lives, even fifty yrs after the book was published.

This is what I'm talking about here: Anyone with half a brain should know that Saddam isn't Sauron, and that the Ring War isn't the same as the terrorism-war. This is just the kind of thing professor Tolkien hated. But I don't think he would've opposed to the fact that the same moral and ethics he belived in can still be seen good and useful. In short: Gandalf's words are wise, regardless of the year we read them.
