Couldn't you have got away with a cloak in the 70s though? I mean, it was the decade which gave us such sartorial delights as the tank top, platform shoes and Oxford bags. Surely a cloak wouldn't have looked any more out of place than a lime green crocheted hat with a button sewn onto the middle of the brim that made you look like a Cyclops (which is what I wore).
