For worst possible couple, my award goes to Saruman and Treebeard.
Treebeard: "Hey! It was your turn to water the plants today!"
Saruman: "Stupid plants. Let them %$#@ing rot. And for the record, I still think we could have made a nice set of benches out of those ugly trees in the backyard."
Treebeard: "You know, I could just try to drown you again, though this time I'm definitely going to get the job done all the way."
Saruman: "Hah! You haven't gotten off your evergreen butt in over two centuries, lazy git. And now you're threating to actually do something? Hahahahaha!!!"
