Lostolin has just left Hobbiton.
Question

Not to offend any Sam-lovers but wasn't Sam only effective throughout the novel because he was a wee bit unintelligent? The One Ring offers him a garden?! Sam helps Frodo every step of the way to Mordor because he is too dumb to realize the chances of making it are slim? Emblazoned in his head is the quest they need to do, and nothing will stop him from doing it (which is a good thing). Then, the scene in the movie where he drowns himself to get to Frodo! I don't want to offend anybody by this quote, it is just an honest question of Sam's intelligence.
