Gurthang has just left Hobbiton.
Well, I'm going to be singing country tonight. *gasps from audience* I know that seems out of character for me, Gurthang, to do, but I hope you can forgive me. I'll be singing as Sam, who is thinking of his friendship with Frodo and lamenting over his departure from ME, which took place long before the song was written. The song will be called What Hurt the Most. I hope you like it. (What Hurts the Most* by Rascal Flatts)

I can take the rain on the roof of this hobbit hole
That don’t bother me
It only makes a few tears now when it comes back to my mind
I’m not afraid to cry every once in a while
Even though remembering with you gone seems so empty
There are days every now and again I pretend to forget
But I can never really

What hurt the most
Was being so close
And watching you sail away
Because you couldn't stay
And still wondering
If I'll see you again
Because you are there to stay
And I might not go that way.

It’s hard to go through life without you, knowing what you did for them
But they don't know
It’s hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I know
Still harder
Getting up, getting dressed, livin’ without their thanks
But I know if we could do it over
You'd still trade give away what you did to save all of Middle-Earth
and without them knowing

What hurt the most
Was being so close
And watching you sail away
Because you couldn't stay
And still wondering
If I'll see you again
Because you are there to stay
And I might not go that way.

What hurt the most
Was being so close
And watching you sail away
Because you couldn't stay
And still wondering
If I'll see you again
Because you are there to stay
And I might not go that way.

Because you are there to stay
I hope I can go that way.

*There is some dialogue at the end of that recording. I don't exactly know what it is, but I found it a little funny.

Extension till tomorrow, please!

And if some passing kind-hearted Alpha Female wolf would like to send me an exemplar and brief history (or perhaps "low-down") of this peculiar art "country" I would be much obliged...

Well we had it extended till today for Mithalwen so yeah, do what you can.
As for a history on country erm... wait... I'm not female, I don't need to tell you!

Anyway, I'm certain you could find a Rascall Flatts song that'll fit or Tim McGraw maybe. Just google 'country music' and go with what you can. Nobody really likes country anyway so yeah...

Female, and not a wolf. But I'll respond anyway.

This may be a little too detailed, but it looks like it gives a pretty good history of country music.

Thanks Celuien, I think he was referring to me but it is not really my speciality - I do have something to post after work which I am reasonably happy with though I have never really visualised myself as Kenny Rogers...

Ahem. I present For A Change, by some yokel called Neal McCoy. Sung in the voice of Khamul the Easterling...

It seems like all my life
I've never been satisfied
Ain't nothin' I ain't tried
Takin' every sorcerous art
Tryin' to find my ring on the range

Been close a time or two
To seein' that dream come true
But I never could follow through
Couldn't drop the other shoe
'Cause pretty soon I knew
I'd be searchin' for a change

For a change
I can't see a little sunlight
Shinin' through the pourin' rain
I swear it's gettin' so much brighter
It burns up my horse's mane
You know I can't get used to this
So right now it still feels strange
To be a happy wraith
I'm talkin' 'bout a happy wraith
I'm a happy wraith
For a change

Ring I must confess
I live for your caress
Every single time we kiss
I know that I've been blessed
I wanna keep you I confess
And in Dol Guldur I wanna remain

Goodbye o' wander lust
I been there long enough
Those times they sure are tough
Things sure are lookin' up
Ever since I got my ring
I ain't lookin' for a change

For a change
I can't see a little sunlight
Shinin' through the pourin' rain
I swear it's gettin' so much brighter
As I ride down Hobbit lanes
You know I could get used to this
A little ring on the range
I'm a happy wraith
Master you made me a happy wraith
I'm a happy wraith
For a change
For a change

Ah. I see.

Just thought I'd help in case the deadline grew close(r).

Well much as I would prefer to be impersonating Galadriel, I still couldn't get "Sometimes it's hard to be an elf-queen to work" so this is Frodo singing about his first meeting with Aragorn. Kenny Roger's " The Gambler" is a cover version of this original lyric :

The Ranger

On a starry Autumn evenin' at the Prancin' Pony,
When we met up with the ranger; I was far to scared to sleep.
So we took turns a watchin' out the window for the Nazgul
'Til the silence go too much, and he began to speak.

He said, "Frodo, I've spent my life readin' fear in people's faces
And knowin' what their chances were and what they had to hide.
So if you don't mind my sayin', I can see you're in great trouble
For a taste of your "Old Winyards" I'll will be your guide."

So I handed him my bottle and he drank down my last swallow.
Then he bummed some "Old Toby" and asked me for a light.
And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression.
Said, "if you're to survive this quest , boy, ya gotta keep outta sight.

With wraiths - you got to know when to burn'em, when to drown 'em,
Know when to hide away and know when to run.
You never use the One ring when the Nazgul're hunting for you.
There'll be time enough for restin' when the Quest is done.

Now ev'ry Ranger knows that the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' when to run away away and knowing when to fight.
'cause ev'ry fight has a winner and ev'ry fight a loser,
And the best that you can hope for is to see the next day's light."

So when he'd finished speakin', he turned back towards the window,
Knocked out his pipe and was lost to his own thought.
And somewhere in the darkness the Ranger dreamt of Arwen.
But in his final words I found small comfort.

You got to know when to burn'em, when to drown 'em,
Know when to hide away and know when to run.
You never use the One ring when the Nazgul're hunting for you.
There'll be time enough for restin' when the Quest is done.
