I think I have it (thanks to all the hints, of course) !

Kettle of Fish

As in "A different kettle of fish", an alternative.

Something suspicious is fishy and so would the tea made in a fish kettle be.

And the reason neither of us have heard of Kettle of Fish is that he hasn't been here since before the Barrow-Downs used a vBulletin Board.

Only old fogeys like Squatter have ever heard of him...

Seriously though, that was one of the more enjoyable questions on this thread. Most of the time someone gets the answer within a few hours.

Now, is that "him" Underhill or Kettle It likely explains Kettle's role in Belin's game, now, doesn't it? Explains the game, too.
