Characterisation.
In LotR, PJ 'lessened' most of the characters from the book, making them less noble, less assertive, more selfish and more dishonest. However, in The Hobbit, almost all of the characters (even Bilbo himself) are selfish, spiteful and greedy, so PJ is going to have to go the other way and 'embiggen' them to get them to be more acceptable. But can he do it, or will he somehow make everyone even worse than in the book? Just a thought... |
