In Middle Earth long range weapons such as arrows and javelins would probably be one's best choice for countering wargs. Also if they charge, pikes would be able to stop them.

But if I happened to be walking down the street and saw a warg I would 1st: verbally make fun of the way it looks; 2nd use the Force to stop it from moving, and then I would pull out my red lightsaber and finish the job like the excellent Sith warrior I am.

The warg's journey would not end there. I would put the dead creature in the back seat of my car and then at home make a nice stew out of it.
