I was actually thinking of Glaurung to Nienor, but Brandir fits the last two lines better.

For some reason that makes me think of Beren, though Frodo is perhaps the more obvious potential answer.

It's not cheating since it's neither of them.

As a hint: this person is even further away from 'home' as these two, and is very nostalgic about it...
