What I had in mind were good old Eggs. One gross is used to describe 144 eggs, which is what Bilbo used to describe his guests at the Farewell Party.

EDIT: If I am not mistaken, there are only one or two things in the Legendarium that starts with "Egl-" that is left unsaid. So, come and get it. And to those who use Enyclopedia of Arda, it's not there.
