Ok then:
The place I'm after was wide and empty. - It was a plain. Once it was to the East of the green plain, (Ard-galen) to the North of the place were eldest son and his riders have taken their guard. (Himring) Before that, the former eldest son was rescued by another eldest son. - Maedhros being rescued by Fingon?

Besides being, as you correctly noted, a plain, the name literally means 'wide and empty' too
