Ori tell Nali. Lets have the Assembly in the Chamber of Records, just because that'd be safer methinks.

Bringing this forward:

Quote:
After Balin's funeral - shall we have this now? - it would be sensible for the gates to be barred: despite their losses, the orcs themselves will probably know what effect the loss of a leader could have, as no doubt those who planned the death of the Chief would have pondered on it before they acted. They might guess that the death of the dwarves' leader would have an adverse effect on their moral - indeed, maybe they planned this and that's why they struck at Balin: maybe it wasn't entirely coincidence?

Dain has had no word from the company in months, and could be thinking anything, and the real danger of the orcs is now being realised. Ori said that they need to leave - as Flori and Ori were the pair who were Balin's closest friends and were second to him in organising the quest, they would probably be taking charge somewhat, so this would be taken seriously. Maybe you'll have your character agree? Maybe your character will argue against this for whatever reason? They need to get their things together and get ready to leave, preferably without getting massacred, and so need to come up with a plan to get past the now-emboldened orcs. But the orcs are getting closer and closer - maybe another dwarf could fall? Soon the second hall is taken...and the rest is there.
I have now done the funeral scene.

Umm...hate to catch you on a technicality (unless the movie has poisoned my mind), but doesn't the engraving on Balin's grave say: Here Lies Balin song of Fundin, lord of Moria?

"BALIN
FUNDINUL
UZBUD KHAZADDUMU"

...in runes. The inscription is in the book, you can translate it with the table of Cirth in the back of the book.

piosenniel is a guest of Tom Bombadil.
Mark12_30 gave the correct source.

On the great slab of white stone were deeply graven these runes:

BALIN (Balin)
FUNDINUL (Son of Fundin)
UZBAD (Lord) KHAZADDÚMU (of Moria)

At the bottom of the inscribed slab, were these runes (They translate directly into English):

*BALINSONOFFUNDINLORDOFMORIA*

-------------------------------------------------------------

The words, 'Here lies', were not engraved on the slab.
