I use all kinds of source material as the basis for my story. The most prominent are the milieu to be found in Lewis, Tolkien, and Williams - but in my own way because I had ideas that they never did, having to do with Genesis 6, planetary influences, and ancient history. In other words, use whatever is in your background/mind to use. Never fear, it'll find its way into your story if it's a part of you already.
