Mad Baggins, re the fangirls: maybe Thorin isn't utterly sexy, but don't forget that proto-Aragorn Bard the Bowman, not to mention Thranduil who is, after all, Legolas's Dad and is described as having gleaming golden hair under his crown of autmun leaves... You can't escape the sex symbols THAT easily, I'm afraid.
