Wow, this was a really long time ago.

Voronwë's quote is concerned with Shakespeare's life. As far as the works go, Tolkien, though he may have disliked Macbeth, did recognize Shakespeare's abilities as a playwright:

To be dissolved, or to be degraded, is the likely fate of Fantasy when a dramatist tries to use it, even such a dramatist as Shakespeare.

"On Fairy-Stories," emphasis mine.

He goes on to talk about this inadequacy of drama, but that is not of course the fault of Shakespeare.
