Wow, this was a really long time ago.

Voronwë's quote is concerned with Shakespeare's life. As far as the works go, Tolkien, though he may have disliked Macbeth, did recognize Shakespeare's abilities as a playwright:

He goes on to talk about this inadequacy of drama, but that is not of course the fault of Shakespeare.
