Can't say why the above idea brought this idea to mind, but ... why did not another Maiar (a good one) make a ring of Love & truth to nullify Sauron's? Oh, I think I'm going to answer my own question--free will. Iluvatar created his beings to have free will. Otherwise, no story, no book, nowhere for us dear departed to haunt cyber space.

But ...! This brings up the topic of free will which I don't think has been explored enough. Then again, it's been some time since I read the original posts.

Guess I'm just thinking out loud.
