Some posters have questioned the fact that Tolkien's pipeweed is tobacco.
It definitely is. In the prologue to "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring", Tolkien refers to pipeweed as Nicotiana, the botanists' name for the tobacco plant. |
