In fact, most modern fiction can be linked to other fiction (does any-one else who's read anything by David Eddings get the impression that it's one big rip-off of Tolkien?), so it's very likely that most elements of Tolkien's mythology are similar to other myths. The book Tolkien's Ring by David Day is all about links between Tolkien mythology and other mythology. Although I don't agree with everything it says, it's certainly interesting to read. </p> |
