Melcildir felt shy and inexperienced in the presence of so many great warriors of Lòrien.

He spoke a bit with Durelin. This Elf was more distant than some and in a way he felt closer and more friendly than the others. Slowly the talk died down as the lanterns glowed only dimly.

When the gathering finally dispersed, Melcildir went back to his home in the branches of a strong and ancient Mallorn tree beside the river Nimrodel. He tried to sleep, but his mind was at unrest. Was he quite ready for the journey ahead? The questions ran through his mind until the river's soft night music lulled him to an uneasy sleep.
