About 20 years after the first would be good, I think. That way everyone is into their new respective lives, so it will be even more difficult to decide whether to go or not (some personal internal struggles). I went to see what time frame the original was in, but they didn't save the Discussion in Elvenhome.

I suppose they
could be in. Although I'm not sure they should necessarily be on the quest itself. Maybe they can be elsewhere, talking about it or something. Or how about we have to get by them somehow and they almost refuse to let us through as we won't tell them why we're passing through. Then, if we do tell them, they would be even more hesitant. It'll pose another obstacle.
That's my opinion in any event.
