The Lay of Leithien. Don't ask me why it's spelled that way, it's only a song about my tragically doomed romance

Does it start with "The leaves were long, the grass was green" ? I think that the Lay of Leithien is longer than the one I have memorized, either that or the one in the book is only a partial.
