I sayeth, let her read the published Silmarillion, because it just wouldn't be the same without Turin and Beren. Then if she likes it she can read volumes 10,11 and 12 of the HoMe series.
Although I have never read any of the HoMe series so I really wouldn't be the person to listen to....
