Let me guess .... Firstly he threw a blue lighted pinecone and there followed more blue lighted ones , red and green lighted ones too .

I can't picture Elrond with a red silk handkerchief. Maybe it was one of those Father's Day gifts where they smile and tell the kids it's just what they wanted. Maybe that's why Elrond didn't mind loaning it.
