But of course when Tolkien fails to provide an adequate back-story and details, it forces us to invent our own to bridge the gap- which means Thuringwethil is precisely as awesome as Maria's imagination can make her.
And apparently the answer to "how awesome?" is "12" on a 0 to 10 scale.  Sounds about right.
