I know more girls than guys who like fantasy, but I guess the girls prefer the 'mushy' fantasy, ie. legends, romances, Beren and Luthien.
I know guys who are fans of Lord of the Rings, but I think they admire the special effects and the action sequences. They prefer Sci-fi fantasy rather than historical fantasy perhaps.
It depends on which aspect of fantasy you lean towards. I find that both genders appreciate fantasy, but in different ways.
