Well, if Idril became mortal, that's a bit of a shame for poor old Tuor who's fate, according to the Silmarillion, was "sundered from the fate of men".

I can imagine some bureaucrat in Valinor taking the rap for that one:

Bureaucrat 1: "Have you heard, Idril's been granted mortality?"

Bureaucrat 2: "Oh c**p, I just stamped the papers for Tuor's immortality ...".
