Question Elvish blood in Boromir and Faramir...

Okay, so we all know that Boromir and Faramir had a little Elvish in them. What I'm wondering is... was it enough to be fairly obvious? I mean, Boromir doesn't really seem the type of person to have Elvish blood; is it simply because he took after his father more than his mother? Is there anything that causes the Elvish traits to show up more (or less) in people like Finduilas and her children, or is it completely random? Does anyone know anything about genetics in Middle-earth? This is just something that I've been wondering about for a while... sorry if I'm not making any sense, or if this is in the wrong forum.
