Of Maeglin

As we know Maeglin was the son of Eol and Aredhel. But Maeglin's tale is told with such disguise that it is impossible for me to understand how he fell into darkness. Was it his love for Idril or his lust for power that turned him to darkness.

But as the years passed still Maeglin watched Idril, and waited, and his love turned to darkness in his hear. And he sought the more to have his will in other matters, shirking toil or burden, if he might thereby have power.
Thus in Gondolin; and amid all the blissof that real, while its glory lasted, a dark seed of evil was sown.

Hmm tell me what u think of this. I want to fully understand this section. Thus learning a bit more of the dark side of things.
