I had no ideas of what should my screenname be, so I decided to call myself Glaurung. I've always liked dragons very much, and Glaurung especially. So that's it. Nothing interesting, I must say... But nice thread, anyway, and interesting, too.. |

On two other posting boards/forums I've used character names from works of fiction. When I decided to register here I thought I'd try to be different even though thinking up names is not something I'm good at. Then it occured to me that if "dúnadan" meant "man of the west" then I could use "Texadan" to mean "man of Texas".

"Ninja91". The Ninja part is there because I like ninjas. I'm a big fan of the Naruto manga. not the show. 91? That is the number of Sergei Fedorov, who used to be my favorite hockey player, up until the Detroit Red Wings traded him and he sucked afterwards. ninja91 just sounds cool to me. the coolest screename I have seen in the Barrowdowns is "Rhod the Red" sounds cool

Letty stands for Dominic Toretto`s girlfriend`s name in "The Fast and the Furious". I`m hopelessly in love with Vin Diesel, that`s why i chose that nick. I`ve been Morganna and Arwen before, and I consider becoming Arwen again, but for now I`m Letty.

Well, I could try and come up with a LOTR example, but I'm not so sure that that would fly around here, so here's the truth: There's a song by The Clash called "Rock The Casbah" and, well, it's one of my favorite songs. I know y'all were dying to hear an deep, inside story (or weren't, as the case may be) but it really is that simple. Besides, it's my MySpace and back when I still used Xanga, it was my Xanga too. I can only remember so many usernames...

Lady of the Blue Star. Ok, I confess, it was really late at night and I had way too much caffeine, so I don't think I should be held accountable for it. The only logic I can think of is that I like blue, shiny objects.

Ghazi means Muslim soldier or warrior. I first read the term while studying the history of the Ottoman Empire. In that context they were generally light-armored horse-archers.

				 | The meaning behind Thoréandan's name...

I first heard the name Thoreandan way back in the early 1980s. I heard it while sitting drinking in a tavern. Some rowdy, inebriated adventurers beside me were singing songs of their past battles, treasures, and places they had visited. Then one of them started singing this song, and pretty soon they all joined in... "Let me tell you about Thoreandan, the man who bit off the dragon's hand. No blows from his sword ever did land, so he bit off the dragon's hand." There were more verses to it, but that was the line that stuck with me the most. The tavern I was in was the Green Dragon tavern, in the City of Xebec's Demise. The City was unlike any place you could imagine. We had all been kidnapped by aliens and brought to this place that they had prepared for us, kind of like a bloddsports arena. It was a kill-or-be-killed place that the aliens populated with their latest abductees to watch us battle it out, often to the death. By now you're all probably thinking "what is this guy smoking?" Let me explain. The City was the first part of a series of Computer Role PLaying Games (CRPG's) called Alternate Reality, produced by Datasoft, and written by Phillip Price of Paradise Programming in Honolulu. It was first released in 1982 (I think) for the old 8-bit Atari computers. It was the predecessor of all CRPG games, and was around long before Castle Wolfenstein or the Ultima series was created. When I read the Tolkien books beginning in January this year (2006), having recently watched the PJ movies, I met up with the Dúnedain Rangers, who reminded me so much of the Adventurers I had met in Alternate Reality. I decided therefore to start writing fan fiction, and specifically to write the story of this Thoreandan (to whom I added the é to make it sound more Elvish), putting him into Middle Earth. So, that is how I became Thoréandan. The Silverleaf part was added much later, in my role-playing on the LOTR Fanatics Plaza website. We have "Plaza Families" there, and I was adopted into the very large and very active Silverleaf family, hence the last name. |

My name is after a character of my own writing. Her personality is probably exactly opposite my own, but she's a really cool character and I'm rather proud of her, and I loved writing the story. I don't know why I used that name when I joined here. Actually, I take that back, I kind of do. I was intending on using the name Istri from C.S. Lewis' Till We Have Faces, but I stuck in the wrong e-mail address and so couldn't get the password. I'm glad I didn't use Istri, it wouldn't have fit me quite so well, I don't think. (Besides that, everyone would have thought I'd mis-spelled Istari, which I didn't, but still...) So, because I couldn't think of any other name, I used Folwren. I almost considered Nienor, or Morwen, but both of those are very sad characters...very sad characters... -- Folwren

My name, zeen, actually doesn't mean anything special. It's simply the first name which came into my mind when I was trying to find a name for the Barrow-Downs chat back then - and which I still use there whenever I happen to get into that chat, which could be much more often...

Well, I have no idea why my name is what it is, I just thought it sounded pretty. I knew in the back of my mind that I had heard it before, and I had. At 12:00 mass, the Priest had used a name like it. I have short term memory loss, L.F1 used to say, until she caught it too! My name probably means Moonblossom

Arathorn was the name of Aragorns father and since I wanted to create something a little more unique, I chopped the n at the end off. Barahir was the father of Beren and of course his ring was an heirloom to the throne of Gondor and I guess I wanted to make myself of his house so to speak.

I got my name from this site: http://www.chriswetherell.com/elf/ You fill in you're name and it give you yer "Elf Name" it can also do it with a Hobbit name (my hobbit name according to that site is Berilac Chubb-Baggins) I don't have a clue how this site works, I have found a FAQ saying that it didn't include ALL rules for elf names, for instance, a Elf doesn't have 2 names |

Hmmm....I have no memory of this thread.... My name is the scientific name of the Tulip Tree (state tree of Indiana)....whose very tall, straight trunk, symetrical branching style, beautiful leaves and silvery smooth bark has always reminded me of a poor man's mallorn.

What does my name mean? Well just look at my sig. All my names have the same meaning. Wyrðhelm is in Rohirric, Ríeth is in Sindarin, and Riewë is in Quenya. It's either "Crown, Victorious" or sometimes "Crown of Victories."

Gwath=Shadow Vagor=Blade Gwath + Vagor = Gwathagor = Shadowblade I left out the 'v' because it is unnatural following the 'th', and that is what happens in RL linguistic development. Hard-to-pronounce letters get dropped. I created the idea of Gwathagor Shadowblade the Warrior-Elf, I think, about 6 years ago while working on an RPG that never got off the ground. Fortunately it wasn't a total waste of time, as I hung onto the notion of Gwathagor, using the name now and then as a joke. Eventually he developed into my alter-ego in Middle-earth and now he's rather a fact of life. We got along, though. We're awfully similar. I use it as my screen-name just about wherever I go on the internet, because it's invented, and therefore always available.

The last part of my name, Redbeard, is referring to my Irish heritage and how I am really an Irishman at heart. The first part of my name was a miss-hap on the keyboard (I was too hasty); it was originally suppose to be Gorin which means "thin tall man" in Comanche. So my name was originally supposed to mean: “thin tall man from Ireland” a good dwarf sounding name, but instead I got a name meaning: “dwarf from Ireland”. Still, that’s not too bad.
