| Legolas kids?

I thought Legolas didn´t have any children, but now I´m reading TTT and he says to Gimli that he felt almost young in a way he hadn´t since he was out with his children. What children?

That´s a mis-translation by the (extremely stupid) Swedish translator. He translated "with you children" to "with my children" in Swedish. Legolas didn´t have any children. I hope that made sense.

Hehe...I actually suspected something like that, but thought I´d better ask. Oh, well...that explains it all. Thank you for answering. Would have loved to see those little elf-kids though...

Legolas was talking about the other members of the Fellowship. Being an elf (and subsequently immortal), the quote indicates that he was much older than the rest of them (except Gandalf, who at that point was presumed dead). It took something as old as Fangorn Forest to make him feel young again. Quote:

A shame Legolas did'nt have children. What if he dies (I know not by natural death) his famaly line will break. ________ Toyota Kd Engine Specifications Last edited by Helkahothion; 03-07-2011 at 01:53 AM. |

I think, correct me if I'm wrong, that Legolas had several brothers and he was, in fact, the youngest. I'm not sure where I got that from though, I might be reading too much fanfiction [ November 25, 2002: Message edited by: Luinsewiel ]

That was a fan fiction. Someone else had that misconception and cited it as the cause. Legolas was an only child as far as we know.

I don't think it would matter much if Legolas' family line was broken by him not having any children. Since Elves are immortal it doesn't strike me that preserving their name would matter so much to them. Humans want to have heirs because we die, and children are a way to continue on. Elves, well, they don't need that sort of thing. I know plenty of Elves do have children, don't get me wrong. I just don't think being childless would bother them that much.
