I'd been thinking about this. In my 'Sammy' thread I think that I defined what a Sammy was or would look like. What would be your definition of a 'Frodo?'

Doesn't this one sort of depend on who one is in relation to Frodo? To Samwise he was beloved master; to Saruman he was ruefully respected; to the rest of the Shire (by and large) he was misunderstood and overlooked; to his friends he was the honored wounded hero. He is almost Elvish in his depth of spirit and character, but no Elf (that I can think of) will ever suffer as he does. I don't know anybody in RL like that.

Besides maybe Christ? Who else has so many different identities to different people? To a few He is the beloved master, to still others He is just a wounded and honored hero, to many He is misunderstood...though never overlooked...
And who else will suffer as he did? Not that other people have not suffered as much physical pain as Jesus did...no, I believe other men have born that much pain before, but never in perfect and complete innocence. Just a thought. Otherwise, I can't think of anyone like Frodo in my life.

oh, you all made very good points. Yes, you are right. I did not define what i ment by "frodo".
I meant something like this: Do you have a friend you love that dearly you would lay down your life for him? would follow him whereever his jounrney would lead him? would do anything to help him out of trouble? i realize i looked at this from sams point of view. i have no idea why... because i do not really identify with sam. |

*thinks again* isn't it like this with anybody in the LotR and anybody in the real wortld. we all have different identities, don't we.
for some we are beloved freinds, others hate us. for our professor we are just "one of the students" or for our boss just one of his workers... to our family we are very special. |
