dulls the mind? Interesting that Gandalf smokes when he need to think - maybe it has the same effect as Ritalin of hyperactive kids...

I wonder if living in Dudley constitutes a mitigating circumstance...

I think the 'dulls the mind' thing is Saruman's line from the movie.

The "dulls the mind" statement was actually put forward by Saruman...

Do the English journalist normally write like this or is it just a momentary joke? If it isn't, then there is a real danger that my opinions on some journalists will be getting pretty funny.

Well Court reporting is usually given to juniors and having read a fair few (my dad was a prosecuting solicitor) this doesn't seem remarkable in the genre other than the extra info in pipeweed and computer games. But you mean you had a good impression of English journalists before?

At least one downer will now kill me
