While playing an intense game of Lord of the Rings Trivial Pursuit, I discovered my neighbor has the affection nickname for Gimli as "Gim-Gim."

Just wondering if anyone knew somebody with, or had heard of, strange nicknames for the other characters of Middle-Earth...

Well, ever since I first watched RotK in theatres and misheard Gimli's line,

The most blatantly obvious ones: Sam, short form of Samwise.

( I know, smart aleck!

) And we can't forget Merry for Meriadoc and Pippin for Peregrin.
