				Withgisl's Tale By Sharkû

Sharkû is one of the original four administrators of the Barrow-Downs. He is responsible for many of the encyclopedia entries linked to our splash page (yes, we have a splash page). Thoughtful, insightful and a dedicated student of Tolkien, he, unfortunately, has not visited here for some time. Withgisl's Tale is a clever story within a story. It tells of an ancient legend of the Rohirrim, set against a framing of an upcoming battle with Orcs. Enjoy!

It is quite clever, isn't it? I feel like the tale-in-a-tale conceit is one Tolkien quite enjoyed but never did enough with, so it's nicely fitting. Using the Rohirrim for the story was a good choice, because they don't have good records or memories of the First Age - their tales don't have to match what the rest of the Legendarium tells us, because they're just... tales. hS
