Numenoren kings and the end of Disney's Biambi
Watching Biambi a couple of weeks ago, while watching the ending, I noticed how similar the great Prince's death was to the deaths of the Numenoren kings. For those who want context. Biambi's father was an old and majestic deer and at the end Biambi's "wife" had given birth to twins and the other animals said that Biambi must be proud of them. Then the camera goes up to the rock where Biambi and his father are standing and then the father turns and starts walking away to probably lay down and die because he is so old. This seems reminiscent of how the earlier kings of Numenor would pass the scepter to their son then die.

Durbethelwen,
I am amazed at your perspicacity upon this much debated subject - Bambi of course was first aired in 1942, before the Lord of the Rings had even been published! Is it a coincidence that Tolkien claimed to dislike allegory and had an inveterate hatred of Disney? What was he trying to cover up? Now to hear that he stole plot ideas from Walt himself must surely shake our faith in Tolkien as the greatest fantasy author of the 20th century and raises far more disturbing questions. How much of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves was ripped off by Tolkien? is Gimli Sneezy, Dopey or Grumpy? Is the poisoned apple merely a forerunner of the one ring? Was Sauron the original sorceror's apprentice? I appeal to the great and good of the Downs to perform an in-depth analysis of the potential influence of early 20th century cartoons upon the genesis of Middle Earth. I await your analyses with trepidation, my friends!

Gosh, Dûrbelethwen , the way you describe that reminds me alot more of Star Wars than of Tolkien, with the twins and all. Also, there's not much sentimentality in Numenor or The Silm, but that is one of the Disney movies' specialties. So, I kinda think, no. Oh, and, just as a point of interest, the Disney movie is spelt Bambi.
![]() Rumil, I think you have forgotten an item crucial to your exposition. Galadriel's mirror and that upon the wall of Snow White's cruel step-mother. How very interesting that Snow White's step-mother does not see through the glass darkly, but it would appear that Galadriel, Sam, and Frodo do! |

The twins part came from the original book which had a distinctly different sort of ending. And they were not the first twins in the book. Faliene was a twin, but Disney decided to leave her twin out of the movie because that plot line also had a sad ending. Oh, and, just as a point of interest, the Disney movie is spelt Bambi. ![]() Oops sorry, guess I need to brush up on my German phonics. |
