I have a crazy sister who slept thru the 2 towers on a date... thats how much she hates the LotR. How can I get her to like the books and movies? Maybe you can do a better job than I have. Don't worry on censoring your thoughts

You can't make somebody do anything, unfortunately. Some people just don't like LOTR, like my grandma and your sister. I think there are two groups of people: those who like fantasy and those who don't.
But if you really want to try to make her like LOTR, I'd try to "woo" her to it, if you understand me. Don't nag her, don't tease her. Does she like to read? Ask her to first read The Hobbit, since that isn't as serious and more fun. If she doesn't, then...maybe you could bribe her? I hope this helps.

She doesn't think that Legolas is hott at all? He is enough to keep any girl awake.

I think I have broken free of your easy description, Imladris. I do not enjoy reading fantasy for the most part, but the Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion are unquestionably some of my favorite pieces of literature (along with the Odyssey, War and Peace, Treasure Island and Walden, to name a few). I think Professor Tolkien's works transcend normal fantasy, which I often find to be repetitive in theme and character.
As for your problem, Gandalf Jr., you should be able to solve it, though don't push the issue. After all, Gandalf (Sr.) was able to kindle hearts to a new purpose without forcing his ways on others (although he did have the help of an Elven Ring) .

Well, I'm glad that you like LOTR, my lord. Have you ever considered reading the Prydain Chronciles? They are good...but back on topic. I hope that one day your sister will stumble upon Middle-earth and fall in lov with it.

IMO, the time and the mind must be right, Gandalf, Jr. (great name and welcome to the Downs, by the way!). And if your sister slept through a date, I DO wonder about her! No, I read LOTR about 13 years ago and enjoyed it, but it did not sink in very deeply at the time. Then I re-read it last year and suddenly the time was right and I was more than ready for it. If you keep it available to your sister and wait for the time when she asks you for something cool to read, then you may kindle the flame perhaps...it is hard to say. Each person is different, and some never come to an appreciation of certain fine things such as Tolkien's works!

Just look at one of my friends she loves the movies but can't get through the books at all. She says they are too hard. I guess she does have a point for I thought they were hard too until I learned more about how things work in Middle-Earth.

I can't help with that but i can tell you that the world is seperated to two kinds of people: to thoe ones the allready read The Hobbit and The Lord o The Rings and to the ones who are about to do it!

Welcome to the Downs, Orc! Enjoy being dead.
Well, Gandalf Jr., I would try to persuade her to read the books, saying that they were great pieces of literature. Unless of course she is one of those people who won't because the books are "too long". (Too long? Pah!) If that is the case, then I don't know what else to try.

Different people like different types of books, and maybe your sister isn't the type for lotr (although she is missing out on quiet a bit ). Although maybe everybody is the type deep inside, I dunno. If she is even slightly interested, than there may be hope for her. Good luck. Hope this might help you.

She slept through TTT? On a date? How?
As for the lack of interest, I may have some answeres. If you only get two hours (or none) of sleep a night, like me for instance, it is possible to fall asleep. Even if you're watching LotR. I fell asleep the fifth time that I saw FotR. *dodges flying objects* Yes, I did fall asleep. As for the books, start her out with the Hobbit. It is a very simple read and may kindle some interest in the more complicated stuff that comes later. Hope it helps.
