Is it that they are all war veterans?

Beren-fought with the dwarves at Sarn Athrad.
Turin-he fought with a bunch of orcs I'm guessing.
Aragorn-Helm's Deep, Minas Tirith, in front of the black gate(would that be 2nd Battle of Dagorlad?)
Eomer-same as Aragorn.
Turgon-died at the battle at Gondolin.
Merry-2nd battle of Dagorlad with Aragorn
