To expand on Evenspire's remark, the three lines of a haiku are separate yet united. They are not one long sentence divided into three parts. The best haikus I've seen (non-Middle-earth ones) have each line stand on its own, or, as Evenspire said, at least the last line stands on its own as an entity - but still reflective of the whole meaning of the haiku.
