I suspect
Pervinca is thinking of P.E. (short for Physical Education, a lesson sometimes - particularly in secondary school - referred to as Games), but I still can't conjure an answer from that.
'Lose direction' could mean either an anagram, or dropping one of the direction letters from the Surrey town. The latter has been a complete dead-end for me so far, though.
