Oh, Eol killed her. All right, well that undermines everything I said before, doesn't it? If she died for her son.
I just always saw her as morally and emotionally weak, which doesn't have a lot to do with her skills as a mother, but, combined with Eol's problems as a father, it does sort of cast Maeglin out on his own, which is very hard on a child and can lead to "tweaked" morals, such as falling in love with your own cousin.
