Exact dates can be useful for astronomical calculations. For instance, at the start of the First Age of the Sun (on a Sunday, no less) Uranus and Neptune are near one of their rare conjunctions. And Mercury and Venus are evening stars. Using a program like Stellarium you can see what they saw.
