You mean you don't remember that passage when Finrod repeatedly sends envoys into the desert in the heart of..... Arvernien?
It's actually a bit strange, but on the Firsr Age map, the only real desert is in the
north. (Meaning Anfauglith. Which I initially imagined as a temperature-neutral wasteland, but have read very pretty and convincing depictions of a proper hot/temperature-swingy desert. But at any rate dry.)
