Um. If the R is the first letter it would have to be
RAGNOR. I guess it includes 'nag', but 'ror' only works for "small and sturdy" if it's a synonym for "tiny but fierce" - "ROR!".
Ah, but the Scrabble dictionary of all places tells me that while 'rangor' isn't a word (I was thinking, like 'ranger'?), GARRON is a 'A small and usually Disdained type of Horse'. That seems to fit.
Though now I'm stuck imagining Dorthonion hill-ponies which glare at you for a while, and then say
roooor, roooor. They're so fearsomely adorable!
