Over-rated isn't the right word. It depends upon the importance of the character as well. Gandalf dies fighting the Balrog, Frodo can not accomplish task (this is a debatable subject, and let's not get into it!
), Boromir dies too, Faramir is wounded too, Éowyn gets a terrible wound, and so does Merry.
