The Eye has certainly received its share of
discussion over time, but I see it as mostly symbolic.
That said, it just seems odd that Gollum would make the distinction of "the Black Hand" if
both Sauron's hands were like that.
Also, as stated above, Isildur noted that it was Sauron's hand which had borne the Ring that was black, not his
hands.
