I realise I wasn't very exact there, should have put more emphasis on the first part. I hope that did not completely take you off track. I merely meant to emphasise that the person is known by a name, or, well, a "name" as in, a word you can use to refer to it (as opposed to not being known at all). So not like "the guy who offers Frodo a drink" or "the sturdy dark-haired guy from the Guard of Minas Tirith", but some specific "name" - when you use it, everyone knows who you are talking about.
