Beren! Beren was lucky, but half those things you said where untrue! he did not decide to get a silmaril but Thingol in his "wisdom" decided to destroy his daughter and beren (and himself as it happened) by sending beren on the quest! and you completely missed out about the valley with ungoliant in(still haven't bothered to look up its name <img src=wink.gif ALT="

it doesn't say much about it in the book, but no one got through that place least of all a mortal except Beren. See now? Beren was lucky, I do resent that one of my fave chars Finrod Felagand died but I blame Thingol for that.
