Well, you saw what happened with Sam when he had the ring for even a short time (Well, of course
you'd know what the orcs thought he was
). Even he, who is such a humble character throughout, gets thoughts of taking control, very unhobbittish thoughts, and so imagine what all that time with the ring has done to Frodo's mind.
