I'll suggest this much: Take the Tolkienish elements (and values) that matter to you; but focus on the beauty, the elegance, the honor, the depth, and the eternal, rather than the explicit ME-ness of it. Middle-earth resounds with beauty and truth; let that be your guide.

For a blatant example: It might be cute to dress your ring-bearer as a hobbit; but will you always be glad you did it? Subtle hints would be okay-- say, a velvet coat with a nice waistcoat underneath; knickers maybe; but I'd skip the furry bare feet.

Go for real beauty, elegance, clear air, freshness of nature-- elves, men and hobbits alike love that stuff. There are lovely dresses out there aplenty that any elf maiden would be proud to wear. Add some classy earrings and a head-dress with gems or leaves, and you'll have something elegant.

But stay clear of garish costumes or blatant contrivances that will make you cringe later. I'd avoid fake rubber feet, fake rubber ears, dwarvish axes, or orc-hides.

And no rings inscribed by Mordor, please. "One ring to rule them all" is not an appropritae marriage blessing!!!!!
